San Francisco!
After a 12 hour drive from Salt Lake City, we arrived at Terry's brother's house in Menlo Park, just outside of San Francisco. On the Donner Pass, on the summit of the Sierras, we went through a small flurry of snow and wet our appetites for the coming ski season. We are happy to be having a break from long days on the road and a chance to settle in to visit friends and family for about a week. The weather is gorgeous!

Salt Lake City
Then onward to visit the wonderful Alison Einerson and her family. After a quick drive by the Mormon Temple, we were so happy to spend a last minute evening and morning with them. The girls are adorable and the food straight fro the garden was delicious! Thank you Alison and family! XO

Bozeman, MT
We spent the past 2 days in Bozeman visiting Ashara's son Nathan.
The three of us visited the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. There were some beautiful formations there, but unfortunately Lewis and Clark never saw them. They weren't even aware of the opening in the side of the mountain. But they did walk by on the other side of the mountain!
Traveling in the moment, we have changed plans and are now headed to Salt Lake City to visit a friend and see if the power of the Mormon Tabernacle and Temple draws us in. From there we plan on heading to the Bay Area, trying to stay upwind from the nearby fire.

finished our "understanding women, unlocking the mystery" workshop
We finished the PAX "Understanding Women, Unlocking the Mystery" weekend workshop last night. So we now are experts on how women work. What would you like to know?
The basic premise of the class is that men and women are different, the opposite of what they teach in school these days. And the differences in the way men and women see and comprehend the world are so vastly different, that we can't even begin to understand how the other sex works. So when we assume/guess that they work/think like us, we totally misunderstand each other. For instance, how many guys would even guess that most women are fearful most of the time and constantly hear inanimate objects yelling at them? And how many women understand that a man will usually answer a question you ask him if only A) you give him time to answer, and B) he wasn't focused on anything else when you asked.
This workshop opened my eyes to a world I never knew existed and allowed me to better understand many times in the past where I was completely confused by women's actions and reactions.
We have crossed back into the US and made it to Bozeman, Montana where we have spent some time with Ashara's son Nathan. Tomorrow is still up in the air.
The picture was taken along our drive thru Montana, and we believe the bird to be an Osprey. If we guessed wrong, please let us know.

On to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Today we had a short driving day, so we took in some of the popular Canadian tourist sites. The first was the "Worlds Largest Ukrainian Egg." Not to be outdone, a town a few miles away had the "World's Largest Ukrainian Sausage." I will leave out the details in respect for our Vegetarian friends.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed with these two, and the Spam tour a few days ago, Ashara needed a good veggie meal. So after settling in at the hotel, we went to Sorrentino's (Motto: You had me at Portabello!) for Dinner. Being as this is their "Wild Mushroom Harvest" month, Ashara had 4 mushroom dishes.
So now we are all rested and ready for the PAX Understanding Women Workshop which starts tomorrow morning. I will take notes and may let you know some of the highlights of how women work in tomorrows post.

We've left the country
Yesterdays events are detailed in the 3 pictures below. We awoke at the Trapper Inn, drove all day thru flat prairies, and saw a nice sunset. Not particularly exciting. We did pass into Canada.
We were driving thru a booming area though. OIL COUNTRY. Half the vehicles on the road (and these roads in the middle of nowhere were full) were all types of big rigs carrying all kinds of things. 49% of the vehicles were big, dust covered pickup trucks. The other 1% were vehicles like ours, family cars. I recall seeing 2 small sedans each carrying an elderly person. They are building like crazy here, widening the 2 lane roads and building housing for all the workers. It reminded me of the gold rush days. Looking for a hotel last night was interesting. We were in a small town (on very few maps) that had lots of hotels, many very large and new. Yet NO rooms available anywhere. The lots were all jammed with the large dirty pickups.
After deciding to drive on to Edmonton, we did see a place with a vacancy sign. It turns out the guy had to unexpectedly leave just before we got there. We even had to wait in the car as the owner was cleaning the room.

The Badlands and Black Hills
We've passed many very interesting sites along the highway, proving "we're not in Kansas anymore". LOL!
Onward to the Badlands, which was absolutely gorgeous!
A trip to South Dakota is not complete unless you have visited the famous Wall Drug Store, a cultural icon in Wall, SD.
Next, we happened to see the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile! I had only seen this in my son Josh's book of cars when he was growing up and fixated on cool cars.
We visited Mt. Rushmore, an incredible sight, and Crazy Horse, a yet to be finished sculpture also in the mountains that has been in process for over 64 years! When completed, it will be many times larger than Mt. Rushmore.

Heading to the Badlands!
Yesterday we started in New York and drove through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois without much fanfare.
Today was a *real* adventure. From Illinois, we went through Wisconsin and when we got to Austin, MN we passed a sign saying "Spam Museum next exit". Really, how could we *possibly* pass that up? Laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes, we drove down Spam Blvd to the parking attendant who informed us that our "Spambassador" was waiting for us inside. Inside the lobby we were met with the "Real Great Wall" (pictured below) which was made up of 3,500 cans of Spam. The brochure said, and I quote: "At one can per day, this wall could feed you for almost 10 years. Dreamy."
So.......we had our picture taken with "Spammy" and it looks like he got a little too fresh for his own good!
I have never laughed so hard through the winding isles of Spam and more Spam information and displays!! I'm not gonna lie, this is THE least likely place in the Universe for a committed vegetarian of 20 years to be!! I'm just so glad we both have the quirkiest sense of humor to even end up here! As we left Spamalot, fighting off our urges to buy souvenirs, we noticed the Mayo Clinic has a hospital just around the corner. Coincidence?
